UEH Connected Community recently welcomed a new advisor, Ms. Deborah Biber. She is an influential person in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in business and education. Here are some of Biber’s information for you to find out more:
Deborah Biber is the Chief Executive of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC). Founded in 1967, it is the oldest, independent business association to link the economies of the Asia-Pacific Region. PBEC provides a meeting place for a diverse group of industries, services and professions that have made the Pacific Basin the world’s growth leader.
Ms. Deborah Biber was previously the Chief Executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau. Prior to this she was a Board Director of this Chamber for five years and was on the Chamber’s Management Committee. She left the Chamber in a position of significantly increased esteem and influence, as well as the largest membership base in its then 25-year history. Ms. Biber was a key player in the formation of the AustCham Greater China initiative and the development of Australian Business Asia, a group of Australian chambers of commerce and business organisations in India, China, ASEAN and North Asia. She remains an Advisor to the AustCham Westpac Australia-China Business Awards program.
Ms. Biber is a passionate advocate for business education to help build tomorrow’s leaders in the Pacific Rim. She was recently the Country Manager Hong Kong for the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM), a global top fifty MBA provider, part of the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales, Australia.
Deborah Deborah has enjoyed a diverse career in all aspects of marketing, public policy and public affairs in Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe as well as across Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and China.
Deborah has made Hong Kong her base for 26 years and before joining AustCham was Chief Executive of leading integrated marketing consultancy Blue Moon for ten years. She expanded Blue Moon’s reach to include many event, sponsorship and marketing projects in Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing; and throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Prior to this, Deborah was the Regional Creative Director and Vice President of international public relations firm Hill & Knowlton Asia and in 1991 was appointed its Global Account Director for the global launch of Asia’s first satellite television platform StarTV.
Deborah uses her marketing and sponsorship skills to benefit several cultural organisations including the Hong Kong Arts Festival and is also an Advisor to the Shanghai International Arts Festival’s Cartoon Carnival. She is a Board Member of Hong Kong based social enterprise Charitable Choice. Ms. Biber is a marketing advisor to the China International Human Resources Association based in Guangzhou, China and Advisor to the recently formed Asian Sponsorship Association, based in Singapore and the Entrepreneurs Club of Hong Kong.
